Greece, the birthplace of myths and legends, now gains its own interactive digital tool that connects mythology with the natural and geological landscape.

The MYTHOLOGIO project is implemented within the framework of Research Excellence Partnerships (SEA) and introduces an innovative Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) platform, offering unique exploration and learning experiences to both Greek and international visitors.

Starting from Attica, the research focuses on areas of strong geomythological and historical significance.

The aim is to highlight the rich mythological heritage through scientific research, digital documentation, and 3D representation, creating an interactive, multisensory, and accessible experience for all.

MYTHOLOGIO aims to:

  • create a high value-added innovative product for tourism, education, and academia,
  • offer personalized routes of mythological and environmental interest,
  • enrich Attica’s alternative tourism portfolio and extend the tourism season,
  • strengthen collaboration between science, technology, and the creative industries,
  • create new jobs in tourism, culture, and environmental sectors.

The project is implemented through four pillars:

  • geological–geomythological research
  • user-centered design
  • VR/AR platform development
  • evaluation and quality assurance

The project is carried out by the collaboration of the Laboratories of New Technologies in Communication, Education and Mass Media and Historical Geology and Paleontology of the Department of Geology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, together with two private companies, innews and inDigital.

With MYTHOLOGIO, Attica becomes a living laboratory where science meets myth and technology brings cultural heritage to life.
